PIAA, lighting beam patterns, and light aiming instructions.

Fog / Foul weather beam, Fog/ foul weather lamps enhance your vehicle's low beams for improved vision in rain, fog, or snow. the low and wide light beam travels under severe weather and also improves side visibility. distance of illumination is similar to your vehicle's low beam, preventing stray light from offending oncoming traffic. Fog/Foul weather lamps come in amber or clear to augment your low beams anytime it's legal in your area.

Projector Fog/Foul weather beam, All PIAA projector lamps are Fog/foul weather lights. Unmistakably the best foul weather lamps available, the precise lens of these lamps projects all the light downward and onto the roadway, eliminating light reflected back into your eyes.

Driving beam, Traditional Driving lamps are designed to increase the range and brightness of your vehicle's high beams, and are especially useful at higher cruising speeds where they help to identify hazards and signs long before they could be seen with high beams alone. All driving lamps are extremely bright and must be dimmed with the high beams.

Dichroic driving beam, Dichroic driving lamps increase the lighted area of vehicle high beams. Their broad beam pattern is especially useful on dark back roads, dramatically increasing visibility up and down hills and around corners. Fifty-five watt dichroic lamps, especially with ion Crystal amber light, can be used as general purpose lamps if aimed down to avoid offending oncoming traffic. Eighty-five watt dichroic lamps are to bright for oncoming traffic and should be dimmed with high beams.

Pencil beam, Pencil beam  lamps have an extremely narrow beam designed for maximum distance. Pencil beam lamps are usually recommended for racing only.

note: To make Driving lamps dim automatically with the vehicle high beams, connect the driving lamp switch power to a high beam wire.

Light Aiming Instuctions

Fog/Foul
Weather
Lights

Traditional fog lights are usually mounted under the front
bumper about 10-24 inches from the ground. There are two
important issues to address when installing fog lights, the
first is to minimize the amount of return glare into the
drivers eyes, and the other is to minimize glare into
oncoming eyes. Both of those issues must be accomplished
while putting as much light as possible on the road.

These fog/foul weather light aiming instructions are
suggestions taken from common practice and the S.A.E.
standard J583. Some modifications to these instructions
may be neccessary to minimize glare.

Visual aim is made with the top of the beam 4 inches
below the lamp center at 25 feet with the lamp facing
straight forward. (See below)

Driving
Lights
Typically, driving lights are mounted above the front
bumper about 14-30 inches from the ground to provide
extra high beam illumination. Driving lights can be
mounted below the bumper, although they will not be as
effective because the light will hit the ground sooner and
reduce the range of the light.

Visual aim is made with the center of the beam hot spot 1.5
inches below the lamp center at 25 feet with the lamp
facing straight forward. (See below)
